Cisco ASA 550X: Next Generation Firewalls

I have been working with Cisco Firewalls for thirteen years, starting with PIX firewalls in early 2000. I have seen them evolve through Operating System upgrades and new platforms. In 2007 I started to work with the Adaptive Security Appliance (ASA). The original ASA combined the abilities of the PIX firewall with the VPN 3000 series Concentrator, while out performing both. These firewalls, too, evolved and added features like Dynamic Routing and the ability to install Intrusion Prevention System and Content Security Control Modules.

Themes from RSA Conference 2011 - Cloud Security, Mobile Computing & more

The atmosphere at the RSA conference this year in San Francisco, CA has a renewed buzz and energy. I haven’t reviewed actual attendance data yet but it appears to be significantly larger, in terms of attendance, this year than it has been in the past couple of years. I am sure this has to do with the continuing rebound in the economy as well as some of the new trends in IT and IT security.

October is Cyber Security Awareness Month!

President Obama has declared October as Cyber Security Awareness Month.  To celebrate October's annual Cyber Security Awareness Month in the U.S., McAfee employees and their channel partners are working with the National Cyber Security Alliance to bring the concepts of cyber safety, cyber ethics, and cyber security to the classroom. What an incredible program!

“From Silicon to Satellite” Intel buys McAfee for $7.8 Million Cash

The McAfee purchase represents Intel’s largest acquisition to date as they see this as a major step up into the mobile electronics marketplace.  Adding security to silicon will give Intel an even stronger presence in the datacenter and consumer marketplaces where they are already the dominant player. Today’s technology still has a long way to go in regards to securing a wide array of internet attached device’s from TVs to cars to medical devices as well as newer devices right over the horizon.
