Security Workshops

En Pointe offers a wide array of information security education opportunities. Our instructor-led training covers information security fundamentals, certifications, regulations, and assessment approaches. For those organizations that want less class room learning and more “roll-up your sleeves” progress in a single learning session, En Pointe offers consultant-led information security workshops.

An information security workshop is a combination seminar and custom consulting engagement. These engagements are offered privately to a single organization onsite. A En Pointe engineer leads a small group of students through the relevant concepts of the workshop topic and then facilitates discussion, critical review, and planning within the organization to move forward.

Once the topic is selected and the workshop is scheduled a En Pointe engineer will prepare the material for the workshop. Preparation includes development of the seminar presentation, research for recent developments in the topic area, and specific research regarding organization specific matters. The workshop begins with introductions and goal setting for the day. The En Pointe engineer then present the seminar information to the group of students, while fielding questions related to the presented material. After the presentation, the En Pointe engineer will facilitate a discussion among the students regarding the organization’s approach to the security topic discussed. The workshop concludes at the end of the day with a debrief or “read-out” of the results.

The information security workshop can cover a wide array of topics including, but not limited to the following:

  • Information security regulations (HIPAA, GLBA, SarbOx, NERC/FERC, 21 CFR Part 11, Common Criteria, DITSCAP)
  • Information security organizations (staffing, placement, experience, skills, activities)
  • Performing security risk assessments (scope, planning, pricing, on-site behavior)
  • Designing secure architectures (requirements, mechanisms, perimeter protection, configuration, change control, operations)
  • Information Security Policies (topics, audience, framework, acceptance, maintenance)
Information security seminars are custom created for the organization and topic to be covered. As such the En Pointe engineer must spend time prior to the engagement to prepare for a well-run workshop. Workshops with more than 12 participants require an extra facilitator.
