HP 3PAR has Multi-Tenancy: sharing is a good thing

HP 3PAR is an advanced storage solution that uses its unique multi-tenant ability to distribute load intelligently and dynamically to best utilize the resources available.

What’s the most efficient way to house people? An apartment building provides comfortable living space. Multi-tenant properties provide options for different tenant needs, but the basics are there for everyone, with some resources shared, like parking for example. And, everyone uses the same plumbing and electrical networks, and usually has shared common areas too.

Thin Provisioning of Your Storage Infrastructure

Thin is in, i.e. thin provisioning for storage infrastructure is in and is a hot topic in the tech world. Many documented studies agree that being fat, especially around the middle, is not healthy. Yes I said fat, which I think is different than overweight. Muscle weighs more than fat, so a very muscular person would be well over the “normal” weight for their height. Weight is different than fat. Too much fat is unhealthy in a number of ways.

Autonomic – wouldn’t live without it

There are some processes in our human bodies that happen unconsciously. You know, like when you see a fully loaded BMW GS1200 go by – you’ve just got to look and wonder where it’s heading. The term Autonomic most often refers to the way our human body’s nervous system keeps us alive without any conscious intervention from us.

Rethink Your Data Center | HP POD

Remember back a few years, and the common perception of what a computer display consisted of. It was a CRT tube, and depending on screen size could weigh a 100 pounds, put off a ton of heat and consumed a bunch of energy. I love watching Sci-fi movies made just a few years ago as they depict high-tech computers in 2050, and the displays are all the old CRT tube type monitors. The writers couldn’t predict flat screen LCD monitors (though some skipped the LCD altogether and went straight to projected holograms).

Thinking outside the box – in more ways than one We’ve all heard the expression “think outside the box”, I Binged it and found this at phrases.org.uk: 'Think outside the box' originated in the USA in the late 1960s/early 1970s. It has become something of a cliché, especially in the business world. Various authors from the world of management consultancy claim to have introduced the phrase.

How to reduce cost and time by 90%

HP moved to manufacturing operations for reel-to-reel tape products in the mid-70’s to new facilities in Boise. They rented a building and set up shop, bringing in a lot of people from Colorado and California to run it. I joined HP in 1977, just after they completed the first of 7 large buildings that formed the HP Boise campus. I’d go into more details on the evolution of HP in Boise, but that’s another story….
