Software Assurance Benefits Updates
The Packaged Services benefit offers you pre-defined service engagements with En Pointe Technologies
through entitlements based upon on your Office Application SA license count. SharePoint Deployment
Planning Services, a type of Packaged Services, removes barriers to the adoption or upgrading of
Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007 by giving you the services of an experienced En Pointe
consultant who can guide you through planning SharePoint Server deployments.
You can use Packaged Services benefits to:

Who is eligible for these benefits?
Eligible licensing programs to date have included EA, EA Subscription, and Select SAM Enrollments.
Packaged Services will now be available to Open Value and Open Value Subscription customers as well.
How are eligible benefits calculated?
The benefit is based on the number of licenses for which you have Software Assurance coverage.
In addition, you will count purchases of suites of Client Access Licenses (CALs), which license
client PC access to Microsoft server applications, toward the Packaged Services benefit.
You will get one point for each license for Office, desktop applications (such as Visio, Project, or
SharePoint Designer), or the Core CAL Suite (a suite of CALs for Windows, Exchange, SharePoint and
System Management Server servers) for which you have purchased SA, and two points for each license
for the Enterprise CAL suite (which includes the Core CAL suite and CALs for eight additional Microsoft
servers or services). The points are awarded on the basis of the number of CAL suite licenses purchased
over the term of a volume agreement.
How does the benefit translate into deployment planning engagement offerings?
The engagement offering is defined based on the service type and engagement length covered by your
voucher - please note that vouchers do not cover number of hours or cash value
("unused" days cannot be "banked"). Some additional entitlements include:
You can convert Training Voucher days into Packaged Service days on a 3:1 basis, with no limit.
Customers with Open Value and Open Value Subscription will be eligible for new Packaged Service
entitlements, and can use with any Packaged Service
Customers with 30,000 or more Office applications under SA will get more days
Customers get additional Packaged Service days for Core CAL and ECAL Suite SA coverage
Customers can create multiple vouchers, spending available Packaged Service days on qualifying services
Customers can opt for the service they've selected, but are limited to a single provider
per voucher / engagement
VL Comprehensive Kits (Welcome Kits) for New EA and Select License
Customers - July 2008
Beginning July 1, 2008 new Enterprise Agreement and Select License Agreement Volume Licensing
customers will receive simplified Volume Licensing Comprehensive Kits (Welcome Kits). These
simplified kits will contain software for only Microsoft's most widely used product families
to align with the existing contents of the product subscription kits.
New Enterprise Agreement and Select License Agreement (including Academic Select Agreement) Volume
License customers initially receive complete VL Comprehensive Kits containing DVDs and CDs with all
Microsoft VL products, including those products they have not licensed. Customers have commented
that these kits are difficult to manage and wasteful.
Customers will continue to receive these kits in the languages of their choice.
Microsoft's most widely used product families include Microsoft Exchange Server, Microsoft Operations
Manager Server, the 2007 Microsoft Office system, Microsoft Office SharePoint® Server, Microsoft Office
Project, Microsoft SQL Server®, Microsoft Systems Management Server Enterprise Edition, Microsoft Office
Visio® drawing and diagramming software, Microsoft Visual Studio® development system, the Windows Server®

New EA and Select Quarterly Product Subscription Kits in October 2008
This communication is to inform you of important updates in the distribution
of Volume Licensing customer media subscription kits in the near future.
Digital by Choice
Digital by Choice is Microsoft's new approach to offering customers a choice in simplifying
their media experience, promoting environmental awareness with their selection, and reducing the
cost of managing physical media. With download functionality now available in the Volume Licensing
Service Center (VLSC), customers have a quick and easy-to-use alternative to physical media delivery.
Microsoft believes customers will choose Digital as their default for software delivery as it provides
immediate delivery of products and can help reduce their management costs. Microsoft is already offering
this option to customers in selected locations and has received positive feedback.

Updates
System Center Product Name Changes - Advance Notice
Microsoft will update System Center Product Family names beginning in late June 2008 to provide consistency
in naming conventions. Complete details including a product family matrix is included in the below
document (attached) for reference.
Background
The suite of System Center products have been released at different intervals over the course of 2007-2008.
Some of the earlier releases occurred prior to the introduction of the "System Center" brand.
Beginning the week of June 23, 2008 though the week of August 11, 2008 Microsoft will update System Center
Product Family names to provide consistency in naming conventions and make them easier to comprehend.
* Existing SKUs that include SQL 2005 technology special use rights ("w/SQL") for System Center Ops
Manager Server and System Center Essentials will be replaced with new SKUs associated with new, distinct
product families called "Sys Ctr Ops Mgr Svr wSQL" and "Sys Ctr Essentials wSQL" respectively. This will
result in consistency with other System Center products that offer the Server along with SQL technology.
This also makes for easier mapping of the appropriate fulfillment media associated with the
corresponding licenses.

A complete matrix of old/new product family names and descriptions will be provided as the changes are
implemented. Additionally, the new replacement SKUs for the above "wSQL" offerings will be identified
in the matrix as old/new SKUs. The old "w/SQL" SKUs will be removed from price lists when the 2 new
replacement product families are added to price lists on August 1, 2008.
Timing
Due to the large quantity of SKUs that exist across all System Center products, it is necessary to
stagger this renaming effort over several months beginning in approximately July 2008.
Please note, SKU descriptions and product family names are created and maintained in a central
system, from which downstream tools and systems pull information to create reports such as the
price list, purchase order reports, customer purchase information on MVLS, etc. Changes to
data in the central system is automatically recognized and will start to flow to these downstream
reports within 24 to 48 hours of taking effect.

Subsequent communications will follow to track this progress and serve as a reminder of
what is changing at that time.

Microsoft Office 2008 for Mac Media for Open Value and Campus and School Agreement Customers
With the recent release of Microsoft Office 2008 for Mac, we know that many Microsoft Volume Licensing
customers have been eagerly awaiting their Volume Licensing media.
All customers licensed through Microsoft Volume Licensing (including Open Value and Campus and School
Agreement customers) can download the media now from the Microsoft Volume Licensing Service Center
at

from En Pointe Technologies.
For Campus and School Agreement customers who chose to receive physical media updates, the product
update will be included in their May 2008 media subscription kit. No changes have been made to the
use rights for the product. Customers who are licensed for Microsoft Office through their Campus or

(as well as for downgrades of both products).

Windows Server 2003 Terminal Services External Connector
For each set of 10 System Center Data Protection Manager 2007 management licenses a customer
acquires between February 1st, 2008 and July 31st, 2008, the customer will be deemed to have 1
server license for System Center Data Protection Manager 2007. Use of Data Protection Manager 2007
under that license will be governed by the terms and conditions of the customer's license agreement
and the product use rights for Data Protection Manager 2007. The customer's right to use Data Protection
Manager 2007 under this offering is evidenced by their license agreement, evidence of their qualifying
Data Protection Manager 2007 management licenses, and this product condition note. The right to use
Data Protection Manager 2007 under the Data Protection Manager 2007 server license expires upon
expiration or termination of the qualifying Data Protection Manager 2007 management licenses. The
customer has the option to acquire Software Assurance for Data Protection Manager 2007 server licenses
granted under this offering. That coverage must be acquired by no later than July 31st, 2008.
Customers without media for Data Protection Manager 2007 should contact their reseller for media
fulfillment options. Media fulfillment charges may apply.
As a limited time offer from March 1, 2008 through August 31, 2008, Select and Enterprise Agreement
customers are eligible to acquire Project Server 2007 CAL with Software Assurance at potential savings.
This offer applies only to customers purchasing at least 500 Project Server 2007 CALs in a single
order, and the discount is available only on a single order.
